Store solar energy for flexible use

Solar power, even if the sun is not shining

With a photovoltaic system, you generate and use your own solar power when the sun is shining. With a storage unit, the electricity you produce yourself is always available when you need it - even in the morning and evening hours when the sun is not shining.

Advantages of energy storage systems

Lower energy costs
Use more of your own solar power, draw less energy from the grid and save on costs.

Increase independence
With a storage unit, you gain independence from rising electricity prices.

Guaranteed power supply
If there is a power failure, you can supply your own solar power from the storage unit.

Use solar power, even at night

A photovoltaic system produces electricity during the day when the sun is shining. In a typical household, however, the electricity demand is highest in the morning and evening hours. This is precisely when little or no electricity is being produced.

In order to use as much solar power as possible instead of expensive electricity from the public grid, you can either postpone your energy consumption until the sun is shining, or store solar energy for later.

Backup power supply in the event of a blackout

Most photovoltaic systems are automatically disconnected from the grid and switched off during a grid blackout.

However, with an emergency-capable hybrid inverter, a battery storage system and a grid switching device, the PV system also runs when it is disconnected from the grid, and you can continue to supply yourself with your own energy during a power outage.

How a photovoltaic system with storage unit works In this way the energy from your own roof can be used throughout the household.
PV modules For home installations, photovoltaic modules are usually mounted on the roof of a house. Sunlight hits the solar cells, where the solar energy is converted into electrical energy.
1
Inverter The heart and brain of every PV system. The inverter converts the direct current generated by the PV modules into alternating current that can be used in the household. The inverter also optimises the yield, controls energy flows and checks the function of the PV system.
2
Backup power circuit In the event of a grid failure, the PV system will be disconnected from the public grid while it continues to supply the household with solar power.
3
Fronius Smart Meter A Smart Meter is an intelligent electricity meter. Fitting the Fronius Smart Meter allows you to optimise energy management and thus self-consumption. Using the data from the smart meter, the inverter can correctly control the energy flows at all times.
4
Energy storage Excess energy is temporarily stored in the battery storage system and can be used if necessary (for example at night). The battery can continue to be charged from the PV system and discharged for the loads in the house even during a power failure when combined with an emergency-capable inverter and a grid switching device.

Solar energy available around the clock

In the evening and at night, household electricity also comes from the sunthanks to the storage unit . This means that the May family has to purchase hardly any electricity from the grid and can maximise their self-consumption.

What capacity of storage system do I need?

The size, or capacity, of a storage unit is calculated based on your individual energy requirements. With the right storage unit, you can increase your self-sufficiency with solar energy to up to 85%,
meaning that energy costs decrease and your energy independence increases.

The following rule of thumb applies when selecting the correct storage unit:

Households with average electricity consumption during the day

__kWh annual power consumption / 1000 x 1.2 = __ kWh storage capacity

Households with low electricity consumption during the day

__kWh annual power consumption / 1000 x 1.5 = __ kWh storage capacity

Fronius comes in top for fifth time

Fronius GEN24 Plus and BYD Battery-Box Premium: This combination once again achieves top rankings at the Energy Storage Inspection 2024. The Energy Storage Inspection is carried out annually by HTW Berlin and is considered Europe’s most important study on the efficiency of PV storage systems. As part of this inspection, the duo made a great impression for the fifth time in a row thanks to its exceptional efficiency.

What makes a good energy storage system?

Owing to our years of experience, we know what really matters when it comes to photovoltaic systems with storage units.

Particularly important is the interaction between storage unit and inverter. Only when these two components work together smoothly can you use your own solar power in a truly flexible and efficient way. This particularly applies n the event of a blackout.

Fronius inverters in combination with high-quality storage units enable flexible charging management: Thanks to the possibility of parallel energy flows, for example, the household can be supplied with solar power and a storage unit can be charged at the same time. You also have the choice of two backup power variants and can expand your Fronius system on a modular basis at any time. Your PV system with storage unit is therefore the perfect basis for a sustainable energy supply.
