Safely mastering everyday charging with Fronius Perfect Charging charging solutions for intralogistics. With an individually planned battery charging station and energy-efficient charging technology, we were able to implement a great project at thyssenkrupp Plastics GmbH.

Opened in 2022, the new thyssenkrupp Plastics GmbH logistics center — a nationwide plastics supplier belonging to thyssenkrupp Materials Services — is located in Tornesch, Germany, near Hamburg. From here, the company supplies a total of 18 German sites with a broad range of plastic semi-finished products. Seven four-way stackers working in two shifts are responsible for the material flow.

The company first contacted Fronius when planning the move to the new building. Safe charging spaces and strategically positioned first-aid modules were prerequisites for the joint project, with the aim of developing a complete custom solution.

The challenges to be overcome lay in minimizing the fire load and simplifying battery handling, while at the same time enhancing safety at work for employees. The island solution developed together with the Fronius Project Business Team now enables employees to charge the traction batteries safely and easily.

An important quality factor stipulated by thyssenkrupp Plastics GmbH for all new purchases is that machinery and equipment must be in the highest possible energy efficiency class. The energy-efficient, gentle charging process developed by Fronius for the Selectiva 4.0 battery chargers won thyssenkrupp over, and is helping to make the company more sustainable thanks to energy savings of up to 30%.

The customized charging station is based on the Fronius System Solutions charging module 2000. A custom design with an overall height of 2.70 meters allows users to safely handle the charging cables and fits perfectly into the available space in the building.
